Dear Family,
It seems that time gets away from me. I have not written for a few weeks. So here goes the travel log. We sent missionaries home and received new ones on the 19 and 20 of November. The missionaries for Slovenia did not come as they have not received their visas yet. That is getting to be a regular occurance. On the 21 November after orienting the new missionaries we left for Serbia with four new Elders. Two were in our car with all of the luggage and two were with the Assistants in their car. When we got outside of Zagreb the freeway was totally stopped. So I took a detour just following where I thought I should go never having drivin on that part of the city. Well it took us an hour just following my nose but we made it the shortest way. Except there was a little construction we ran into. Then it was foggy all the way to Beograd. I was very happy when we arrived. Late but just fine. We went directly to the church and let all of the Elders meet up with the other missionaries and we went back across the river to our hotel. The next day I did training with the missionaries for one hour. Then I set Goran Strbacki apart as a full time missionary called to serve in Salt Lake City. How amazing is that. He will learn so much and be a real influence in Serbia upon his return. I remember when Serbia was first put into our mission and we went there with Elder Wondra. I met Goran in Sremska Mitrovica at church. He came there for sunday meetings to meet us. All of the members in Novi Sad where he is from met that day with the members in Sremska Mitrovica. He was an investigator at the time. I was drawn to him and I remember speaking with him and feeling how special he is. It was a great experience. I have reminded him of that meeting multiple times. After the training with the Missionaries and setting Goran apart on the 22 Nov. I did interviews. We stayed that night in Beograd after having a dinner meeting with the Zone Leaders and the Assistants at a restaurant. The next morning we drove to Osijek Croatia and did training and interviews. Then we drove back to Ljubljana. On sunday I had to fly to Vienna Austria for a meeting with the Area Presidency and all three of my District Presidents. It was a good meeting. I was suprised at how much time early in the meeting that Elder Robert L. Oaks spoke of the Adversary. He testified that he is stepping it up in these last days and that we must also step it up. I flew back to Ljubljana that same day. On wednesday the 28 November we held Mission Council at the Mission Home. It went very well. The next day we met with Diego Schina from Italy for a lunch with the workers on the Ljubljana Church. Brother Schina is a member and he is the superintendant for the church on the construction. We gave the workers all a copy of the Book of Mormon. It was great. One of the senior men in the company that is doing the construction even ask for extra copies. One saturday the 1 Dec we had a baptism for a 30 year old lady. She ask me to do the baptism. She is an elect lady that has great faith. She met missionaries fifteen years ago and stopped progressing but now she accepted everything. Her sister was meeting with the missionaries this time before she started. But her sister wants to question everything. Vesna Gobec on the other hand accepts it with faith. On sunday the 2 December I met with President Krajl and his counselor Robert Vidra and Sister Majc and Sister Glassford and Sister Hensley from our office with the two Zone Leaders Elder Rees and Elder Wilde. I assigned them to start holding meetings to prepare for the Open House of the new church. I hope it will happen in June 2008 before we leave. Yesterday we had Zone Conference in Slovenia and then our Holiday Meal with the Slovene missionaries. Today we leave for five days to do Croatia and Serbia plus attend church in Serbia and on the way back meeting with the missionaries in Zagreb for some more training and planning and just counciling together to see if the Lord will inspire us on how to have more success in that city. Life is busy but life is very good. I love being here with Roylene. She is a great lady with alot of goodness. I am so thankful for her in my life. How blessed we are to have eternal companions. Even those of you who don't have yours by your side in body have them by your side. We are all so blessed and have so much to do to build Gods kingdom here on earth as our loved ones who have passed on from this sphere are doing where they are. There is so much to do and so little time to do it. But it will all work out according to Heavenly Fathers plan. Have a great week. We love all of you.
Love Dad (Doug)
