Dear Family,
We had a trip to Osijek. We left on saturday and took the Assistants with us along with a portable baptismal font. A members son was to be baptized after church on sunday. It takes about 6 hours to drive there and of course it took us longer because of stopping in Zagreb to get the font and the Elders. We had a lesson with a member on saturday evening. Boy was that an experience. All he wanted to do was contend with the Elders that were teaching him. Many of the Croatians are argumentative. We need to teach the missinaries how to soften hearts by inviting the spirit into the room. On sunday Roylene and I were the assigned speakers for sacrament meeting. She gave a wonderful talk about the prophet Joseph Smith and related some stories about him. I faced my fears by speaking in Croatian for about 10 minutes with out an interpreter. I had to read alot of it or look down at my written talk alot, but it went ok. The only trouble is people then think you can speak in Croatian when I really can't.
Then I experience a first for me. Something I have always been afraid to do, but I ask missionaries to face their fears and do street contacting so I felt a need to face one of my fears. You will never guess, so I will tell you. I sang a hymn solo without accompaniment. That is right this is not a miss print. People also stayed in their seats no one got up and left. No one stood up and protested. I am still alive and well. I discovered a new way of keeping people awake during sacrament meeting. Now I can ask the missionaries to do anything. Today we go to the airport and receive the Ferre's, Hansen's and the Chabries. What a strenght they will be to our mission. We love all of you and we appreciate your emails of what is happening in your lives and especially the pictures too. Love Dad
