Dear Family,
Last week we went to Rijeka and took the Ferre's and Hansen's with us. We got to go to Pula which is a city with a Coloseum. It is amazing to see. I can not imagine man's inhumanity to man. This is where actual Gladiators fought and Christians also. This is one of if not the best preserved one standing. Even though it is not complete as it once was. The dates on a old temple we saw goes back to the year 1. History is all over the place in this mission and we rarely have time to see anything. But that is ok. I am surprised at Scratches influence in this part of the world. He really has a strong hold on everything. We keep feeling his forces and know that he tries with all of his might to stop the work. Pula is a coastal city and so is Rijeka. We stayed about 30 minutes outside of Rijeka in a city called Opatiah. The climate is warm there and they even have palm trees. JR Hansen took about 200 pictures so someday you will be able to see it. It was good to be with all of these friends. A local member gave us a tour. He was a return missionary that I released from his mission last November. Bojan Ristic. He was sustained in church on sunday as the first counselor in the Branch Presidency. He also was studing to be a priest in the Catholic church when he was contacted by the missionaries. He can speak English, Croatian, Italian, Spanish, and French. And of course Latin. Wonderful young man and member. Branch Conference was held while we were there and the new District Presidency took charge. It is great when local priesthood rises to the occassion. Tomorrow we leave for Zadar and we will return on monday with all of the holiday traffic. Roylene has been sick with a sore throat and sinus infection again. She is doing much better today. I told her she has been more ill with colds and the like since we have been here than any other time since our marriage. She is such a blessing to the work. Last night I had to meet with a Branch President and his wife and my first counselor because my first councilor refused to give a temple recomend to the branch presidents wife. Oh the things we have to deal with. It is hard enough without that. Also we have visa problems in Croatia. I had to send an Elder to Serbia for three months because he was late on registering. The member who has been helping with visa's dropped the ball. He is power hungry, but I have to get it fixed to use someone else. Right now I have six other missionaries that are in jeprody. Oh well all in a days work. Just remember this too will pass and we will get it solved. Well that is all for now. We love all of you. Keep praying for our investigators and their protection from the firery darts of the adversary. Lots of love Dad
