This is an email from the couple that was supposed to be in charge of the Young Single Adult Conference, but they could not go. The Croatian government would not let them cross the boarder because their visa was not issued yet. Just thought you might want to read this. Jay print off a copy and add it to our book that you are making. Jay we hope that you have a happy birthday today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAY. Love all of you. Dad and Mom
Dear Pres and Sis Weight,
Thursday we went to Zagreb to retreive our car and have a more in depth visit with Hammers on what went well and what needed fixing on the conference. There is a trite saying that things happen for a reason but I know for a fact that in this case it is REALLY true. After listening to the Hammers explain what they did I was in awe and knew Jim and I could never have come up with such clever and meaningful visual aids. They really were meant to show those to the kids and will not be soon forgotten.
Thank you both for all that you do and did at the conference. We got a blow by blow account from our Lana and she couldn't say enough nice things about what fun it was to be in your cabin and how impressive the things that you said were. This will be something she will always remember. We also found out from her that her parents were there all day on Sunday and kept their eye out for her but of course never saw her as she was inside and they were outside. She came home so excited and full of the spirit and then had it deflated when her mom started picking on the church. Having us at the church each day has given these kids a place to come where they can feel good and supported.
Which brings me to the next item, my report! only a little late. In the month of May we had 142 member visits and 190 non member visits both up from last month. We wrote our former stake pres who is doing the same thing in Germany about what happens in the summer but he and his wife go home the end of this month and are trying to organize things to run without them until Sept when their replacement couple comes so they have not returned our mail., I am a little concerned about the numbers but we will just plug along. We have several 11-13 year old boys that come pretty regularly. Jim suggested we might have a little "scouting" type program for them with the hopes that they will just get in the habit of coming and when they are 16 and 17 they will be ready to make a permenant commitment. That thought came before the CES assignment was more permenant and the BP calling. now with both of those I don't know how it will work but we will see on that too.
Jim has begun interviewing all the branch members so that he can get to know them and they us. So far eveyone has expressed gratitude for him being in the calling. We feel very accepted here so don't think there will be a problem. We surely love them, too. I am in such awe of their strength and feel like I don't even hold a candle to their sacrifice to be a member.
Again, thank you both for the amazing people you are. We feel very blessed to have been called here to serve under your direction and hope our efforts are acceptable.
Love and Appreciation to you both, The Blatters
